Sunny sludgy day

Yet another midgy day saw everyone applying repellent and reaching for their midge nets, but after a couple of hours of midgy hell an decent breeze sprang up and it tuned into another gloriously sunny day:

The tide was pretty high but that doesn't matter on a flat calm day and it's quite pleasant hearing the waves lapping against the shore while you work:

There's also the bonny view when you remember to lift your head out the trench to have a look at it:

Harry was enjoying his sludge pit at the lower end of the site, you would never guess that in his day job he's a respected member of the legal professional and a retired Major in the Northumberland Hussars, don't expect they'd've let him into the officers mess looking like that:

Harry's sludge was far too sludgy to be dry sieved and it was totally impossible to see anything in the way of finds during excavation, so the trusty wet sieves were deployed taking advantage of the high tide:

It being a boiling hot day by now this turned into the best job on site and the sievers certainly enjoyed the change from routine:

And that old Swandro tradition, attempting to create shade for a photograph in a cloudless sky, made another appearance:

Finally here's an overhead of the site today, you can really only appreciate the complexity when seen from above:
