Antler mount and the head of a pin

Star find of the day came early for Keith today, with this very fine antler mount still with one of its fixings still in place, not 100% clear if it was an iron rivet or a bone peg, and since Julie frowns on giving finds a bit of a scrape to clarify such issues we will have to wait for the conservators to tell us for sure:

We'd started off with a site tour as there were a few folk (re)joining us today - hi to Aidan, Jack and Ellen who we are very glad to have back, and also welcome back to Talia and Michal fresh from the Bradford graduation ceremony:

Milly went for the tiniest entrant into star find of the day contest with this barely visible piece of copper alloy, possibly the head of a pin:

Alan meanwhile was being herded off site by our resident flock of rambling sheep:

And in the absence of Lindsey for a couple of days the role of drone whisperer has been taken over by Alice:

On a bit of a flying visit for two days only were old friends of the site Drs Julia Beaumont and Hannah Koon:

And also putting in an appearance was this mysterious figure, I was sent the photo with a caption saying it was the Swandro Trowie, but I actually think it looks more like Groot out of Guardians of the Galaxy but maybe that's just me:
