Jackie struck again today with her Star Find of the Day, both halves of a little stone lamp, only just getting it in under the wire right at the end of the day:

It was our Open Day today and the sun shone all day, Alan was in full flow in his other persona as a Living History Reenactor:

He had earlier been on site finishing some bits off but still in character:

Tom has joined us for a week with his many laser scanners...

...going beyond the call of duty to get some of the more challenging areas done:

This is what he is scanning in the pic above, a stone lined channel underneath a slab in the the main entrance passageway:

Sitting in the top of the fills of this was a mystery whalebone object, made out of a whale vertebra, could have had any number of uses but has no obvious wear signs, it's good to see our finds supremo Talia so happy:

Came a close runner up in the Star Find of the Day category, but in the end Jackie's lamp just edged it out. Here it is ready for its close up - side 1:

Side 2:

We're now bracing ourselves for Storm Floris to hit in the morning, we're still in the 'yellow alert' area rather than the 'amber alert' area, which means we shouldn't get hit quite so hard, but since the boundary is at Thurso just over the Pentland Firth from us there might be a bit of wiggle room in the forecast, but still going to be very wet and windy. We might not get on site tomorrow, but hopefully back OK on Tuesday at least.
