Day 4 of uncovering the site and we've reached the rotting seaweed horizon. At the end of the year we cover the site in protective membrane, then sandbags at the top and rock at the lower levels, and every year the sea very kindly adds more rick and lots of fresh juicy seaweed, which of course is stinking and rotten by the time we get to uncover it.

The only way to remove this is by hand, so we started with some brisk rock shifting for a warm up, then straight into the seaweed.

At least it was a bonny day for it, dry and sunny, and you can't beat the view we have from site:

We also had the first of what we hope will be many visitors who kindly made the effort to walk along to see us. We're now closed for our days off but resuming work on Sunday, when we'll be able to get the covers off the lower part of the site, so there will be even more for people to see.
