Another sweltering day

Second day in a row of glorious sunshine and tropical heat - well about 15 degrees which is good for an Orkney summer, a dry day is always welcome but it does have the disadvantage that it dries out the site a bit too quickly and also makes taking site photos difficult due to all the shadows.

Lindsey was hard at work drawing a section:

The sieves were being put to good use and still in OK condition despite many years of sterling service, as demonstrated by Matt, one of our keen and eager volunteers:

Meanwhile over in the flooded bog on the way to site Gavin and Caz were investigating the cause of the flooded path, which involved first locating and freeing the drainage pipe installed by Gavin in a previous season:

As expected the cause was a block in the drainage pipe, luckily no further in than arm's length:

A quick check of the other end and normal service was resumed, the bog started to drain and the path dried out.

A good way to cool off on a sweltering day, hopefully the weather will hold a bit longer.
