Another blustery day

Not a great day weather wise, some fairly heavy showers early on, but we carried on regardless for most of the day, Rebecca (Nicholson, on a busman's holiday from her day job as head of Environmental Archaeology at Oxford Archaeology) was busy excavating some blocking and steps in one of the subdivisions of the roundhouse, the funny marks on the stones are speckles of rain:

And here's some of Rebecca's finds from this area, alongside the pottery and worked bone there's a nice piece of pumice, which shows signs of being used for smoothing down something, probably bone. We've had other finds from this area suggesting that it is being used as a bone working workshop.

Elsewhere on site a section was being put through one of the walls and infill to clarify the site stratigraphy, so here's a little action video of one of the larger being gently slid away:

Later in the afternoon the heavens opened and a deluge descended causing a slightly earlier than usual finish from site. We have the next two days off and according to the weather forecast it's going to be a bit of a wet few days, should hopefully have dried up by Sunday.
