Swandro victorious at the Current Archaeology Awards

We're delighted to announce that we've won the Rescue Project of the Year category in the 2024 Current Archaeology Awards

We were up against a lot of competition from the other seven projects, so we want to send huge thanks to everyone who voted for us, it really means a lot to have won. Here's our trophy in close up, we'll have to have it on display at site this year, I think a large plinth might be in order!

Thanks are also due to the Current Archaeology team who have featured Swandro repeatedly in both the magazine and online over the years, including this very nice write up from the 2022 excavation.

Team Orkney had a great night, since our good friends at the Ness of Brodgar winning both research project of the year and site director Nick Card winning Archaeologist of the Year - so Orkney sites won all three of the awards we were nominated for!

Hopefully all the publicity surrounding the award will lead to a few contributions towards the 2024 excavation fund, which will start on the 17th June for eight weeks. Can't wait to get back on site!
